# Terms of Service | Mug

Mug platform terms of service.

Terms of Service
Effective date: May 15, 2026
These terms govern your use of the Mug platform operated by Tyler Berggren at mug.work. By using Mug, you agree to these terms.

The service
Mug is a business operations platform. You create workspaces, connect external data sources, build workflows in TypeScript, and deploy automated operations. We provide the runtime infrastructure; you provide the business logic.
Accounts
You need an account to use Mug. You are responsible for your account credentials and all activity under your account. One person or entity per account. You must be at least 18 years old.
Workspaces
A workspace is an isolated unit on the platform. Each workspace has its own compute, storage, and credentials. You are responsible for the code and configuration in your workspaces.
Ownership. The account that creates a workspace owns it. Ownership can be transferred. The workspace owner is responsible for billing and compliance for that workspace.
Your code. You retain all rights to the TypeScript code, configurations, and business logic you write in your workspaces. Mug does not claim ownership of your code or data.
Our infrastructure. Mug's runtime code, APIs, surface renderer, CLI, and platform infrastructure are proprietary. The generated CLAUDE.md files and workspace templates are licensed for use within Mug workspaces.
Billing
Tiers. Workspaces operate on a tier (Free, Starter, Pro, Business) that determines usage limits and features. Tier details and pricing are published at mug.work/pricing.
Usage limits. Each tier includes allotments for automated operations, database records, file storage, email sends, SMS sends, and AI credits. Usage is metered per workspace per calendar month.
Overages. Paid tiers can enable per-unit overage billing on each metered dimension independently. When usage exceeds the base allotment, overage charges are billed automatically in real time at published per-unit rates. Workspace owners can set a dollar cap per meter; usage is blocked when the cap is reached. Free tier has hard limits with no overage option.
Payment. Paid tiers are billed monthly or annually via Stripe on calendar-month cycles. The first billing period is prorated from signup to month-end. Overage charges are billed automatically as they occur.
Cancellation. You can downgrade or cancel at any time. Downgrades take effect at the next billing period. On cancellation, your workspace continues to operate until the end of the paid period, then reverts to Free tier limits.
Refunds. Monthly plans are not refundable. Annual plans are eligible for prorated refunds for full unused calendar months remaining on the plan. Contact us to request a refund.
Wholesale pricing. Accounts with multiple paid workspaces receive wholesale pricing as published in our pricing. Discounts are applied automatically and may change with 30 days notice.
Acceptable use
You may not use Mug to:

Violate any law or regulation
Send unsolicited bulk messages (spam) through notification services
Store or transmit malware
Attempt to access other workspaces or platform infrastructure
Interfere with the platform's operation or other users' workspaces
Resell platform access outside the scope of managing workspaces on behalf of your clients
Exceed rate limits or circumvent usage metering
Use the platform to build a competing service

We may suspend or terminate workspaces that violate these terms.
Bring Your Own Key (BYOK)
You may configure your own API keys for AI providers, email services, and SMS providers. When using BYOK:

Requests using your keys are subject to your agreements with those providers, not ours
Usage on your keys does not count against Mug-metered allotments
You are responsible for the costs incurred on your provider accounts
We store your keys encrypted and use them only to route requests as configured

Connector credentials and external access
When you connect external services (APIs, databases), you authorize Mug to access those services on your behalf using the credentials you provide. You are responsible for ensuring you have the right to access and sync data from connected services. You can revoke access at any time by removing the credential.
Availability
We aim for high platform availability but do not guarantee a specific uptime percentage. The platform runs on Cloudflare's infrastructure and inherits its reliability characteristics. We will communicate planned maintenance and known outages through our status channels.
Workspace-level issues caused by your code (workflow errors, connector failures, misconfiguration) are not platform outages.
Liability
As-is. The platform is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, express or implied.
Limitation. Our total liability for any claim arising from your use of Mug is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim.
Exclusions. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including lost profits, lost data, or business interruption.
Your responsibility. You are responsible for the business logic in your workspaces, the data you process, the notifications you send, and compliance with laws applicable to your use case. Mug provides infrastructure, not business advice.
Intellectual property
Your content. You retain ownership of all code, data, and content in your workspaces.
Our platform. Mug's name, logo, platform code, documentation, APIs, and surface rendering system are our intellectual property.
Feedback. If you provide suggestions or feedback about the platform, we may use it without obligation to you.
Termination
By you. Delete your workspace or account at any time. We will delete associated data per our retention policy.
By us. We may suspend or terminate your access for violation of these terms, non-payment, or if required by law. We will provide reasonable notice when possible.
Effect. On termination, your right to use the platform ends. You may export your workspace data before termination. We will retain data per our privacy policy retention schedule.
Changes
We may update these terms. Material changes will be communicated via email with at least 30 days notice. Continued use after the effective date constitutes acceptance. If you disagree with changes, you may cancel before the effective date.
